Every industry is currently in the midst of a transformation as the world becomes even more hyper-connected, and agile players in the space turn to data in order to gain market share by driving product differentiation. Many of the applications that we know of today, and will require in the future, leverage the use of these new and emerging data source in order to provide more value. IoT is a great example of data driven products and services. As the internet of things (IoT) advances, it becomes critical for organizations to understand how to leverage this information to better fuel the next wave of application innovation.

  • Jeff Fletcher

    Hadoop Infrastructure Deployment, Internet Solutions

Jeff Fletcher is the rarest type: he comes from a solid technical background, but his main focus is making the numbers work. He graduated from Witwatersrand University with a degree in electrical engineering, and has been involved in Internet technology all his professional life, but with a strong commercial bent. Jeff Fletcher is an expert in the financial side of product development in the Internet Service Provider environment, making sure the technical platform can support products that are, in turn, financially viable. Jeff Fletcher started his career at Telkom in 1994, working on the initial Internet infrastructure team and managing aspects of the Johannesburg Beltel installation. Between stints at Sprint (which became UUNET which became Verizon Business), where he designed and implemented new Internet products and services, Jeff Fletcher founded Antfarm Networking Technologies, South Africa’s first streaming and webcasting company. This was his first taste of entrepreneurial start-up culture, and he liked it. He returned to the corporate world in 2004, occupying the corner office of the new product development team at Internet Solutions (then IS). His start-up flair was still very much present, and he was a driver behind the team that set up ISlabs, an incubator within IS to bring innovative new Internet ideas to market. There was a brief entrepreneurial interlude to co-found Three6five Network Solutions, where he focused on consulting and learning the art to data visualisation. Jeff Fletcher is now back at Internet Solutions, building the next generation of products including the Big Data strategy.
