This is the documentation for CDH 4.7.1. Documentation for other versions is available at Cloudera Documentation.

Cloudera Manager 4 and CDH 4 have reached End of Maintenance (EOM) on August 9, 2015. Cloudera will not support or provide patches for any of the Cloudera Manager 4 or CDH 4 releases after that date.

Oracle JDK Installation

The Oracle JDK installer is available both as an RPM-based installer (note the "-rpm" modifier before the bin file extension) for RPM-based systems, and as a binary installer for other systems. Make sure you install the jdk-6uXX-linux-x64-rpm.bin file for 64-bit systems, or jdk-6uXX-linux-i586-rpm.bin for 32-bit systems.

On SLES 11 platforms, do not install or try to use the IBM Java version bundled with the SLES distribution; Hadoop will not run correctly with that version. Install the Oracle JDK by following the instructions below.

To install the Oracle JDK:

  1. Download the .tar.gz file for one of the recommended versions of the Oracle JDK from the Oracle Java SE page.
  2. Extract the JDK to /usr/java/jdk-version; for example /usr/java/1.7.0_15
  3. In /etc/default/bigtop-utils, set JAVA_HOME to the directory where the JDK is installed; for example:
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/default
  4. Symbolically link the directory where the JDK is installed to /usr/java/default; for example:
    ln -s /usr/java/jdk.1.7.0_15 /usr/java/default
