Overview of Altus Data Warehouse
Altus Data Warehouse provides a data warehousing service that enables you to create clusters running the Impala SQL engine on AWS or Azure. Data Warehouse clusters enable you to directly and iteratively access data in Amazon S3 or Azure Data Lake Store (ADLS) object storage for business analysis and reporting.
The Altus console provides a query editor that enables you to connect directly to your Data Warehouse cluster and query the data. You can also use standard business intelligence tools with ODBC or JDBC to connect to Data Warehouse clusters and query the data.
Altus Data Warehouse Service Architecture
When you create a Data Warehouse cluster in Altus, the Data Warehouse service accesses your AWS account or Azure subscription to create the cluster on your behalf. Altus requires permission to access your AWS account or Azure subscription.
If your Altus account uses AWS, an AWS administrator sets up a cross-account access role for Altus to provides access to your AWS account. When a user in your Altus account creates a Data Warehouse cluster, the Data Warehouse service uses the Altus cross-account access credentials to create the cluster in your AWS account.
If your Altus account uses Azure, an administrator of your Azure subscription provides consent for Altus to access the resources in your subscription. When a user in your Altus account creates a Data Warehouse cluster, your consent allows the Data Warehouse service to create the cluster in your Azure subscription.
Altus manages the Data Warehouse clusters in your cloud provider account. In AWS, the cluster accesses the Amazon S3 object storage to read or write data. In Azure, the cluster accesses Azure Data Lake Store to read or write data.
Altus Data Warehouse users can use the query editor in the Altus console to send queries to the Data Warehouse clusters. You can also configure standard business intelligence tools to allow Altus Data Warehouse users to send queries to the Data Warehouse clusters through a JDBC or ODBC connection.
