Data Scientist. Shoprite Group

Georgina Armstrong


Georgina is a data scientist working on big-data customer behaviour projects at Shoprite Group. She has a diverse background with stints in shipping (Maersk), digital marketing (Quirk) and fintech (22Seven). She's part statistician, part strategist and all nerd. She makes pretty data visualisations. She is a POPI true believer and specialised in data ethics and POPI compliance at her last 3 jobs. She's also quite tenacious - teaching herself to code in R (after the age of 30) and getting her blue belt in Jiu Jitsu while 6 months pregnant. She holds an honours degree in finance and an MBA from UCT. She swears a lot. Sorry.

Russel Alexander


Russel is responsible for developing the Cloudera Brand across the Southern African Theatre. Having been the first in-region employee for Cloudera in 2016, Russel has established a localized footprint by expanding the regions market share and partner eco-system. Russel is passionate about enabling the Southern African region on this new craze that is Big Data. Russel joined Cloudera from HPE, where his remit included developing the Big Data Software portfolio within the group. Prior to his HPE endeavors, Russel was part of the team that grew the EMC brand in region for the better part of 6 years. He brings a wealth of experience having very successfully served in both Sales and Technical roles throughout his 20+ year ICT Tenure, with the occasional rolling up of sleeves and diving in the trenches with the amazing people that make technology a reality. Russel’s passion is and always will be the people that keep the ICT industry at the fore of innovation!

Chris Darvill


Chris is the Senior Director, Sales Engineering for Cloudera in EMEA. In this role Chris manages a team of Sales Engineers who work with Cloudera's customers to help them understand how the Cloudera platform can help them address their business challenges and add value to their organisations. Chris is an experienced Sales leader with over 20 years’ experience working in the enterprise software industry, with the last 18 years spent in the Sales and Presales function. Prior to joining Cloudera Chris held a number of Presales management roles at companies such as SAP, Business Objects and Experian. He graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Computer Science.

Senior Regional Sales Director Central EMEA, Cloudera

Wolfgang Huber


Wolfgang Huber is responsible for driving Cloudera‘s sales and the overall business development in BeNeLux, South Africa, Central and Eastern Europe. Wolfgang joined Cloudera from SimpliVity, a very fast growing leading company in the Hyperconverged Infrastructure space that was acquired by HPE in 2017. He brings a wealth of experience having very successfully served in several sales management, partner and alliance development roles at fast-paced global companies, including VMware, Infoblox, Q1 Labs, F5 Networks and 3Com over the last 20 years.   He holds a M.S. degree in Physics from the Technical University in Munich; a degree (D.E.A.) in Instrumentation and Measurements  from the University of Bordeaux (France) and completed a masters thesis at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA). He has published articles with the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the European Commission.

Riedwaan Bassadien


Riedwaan has over 20 years’ IT experience spanning Technical Engineering, Sales and Marketing. Born a talented coder and destined to craft the most beautiful code for the rest of his life, he was seduced into sales, marketing and business. Presently he leads the Open Source Strategy at Microsoft South Africa and has been with the company for over 15 years. In his free time, when he is not hacking up something interesting, he can be found spending quality time with his wife and son or strumming his guitar.

Jeff Fletcher


Jeff Fletcher is a sales engineer at Cloudera South Africa, where he helps customers build big data infrastructure. Jeff has been involved in internet technology all his professional life. Previously, he worked on the initial internet infrastructure team and managed aspects of the Johannesburg Beltel installation at Telkom; designed and implemented new internet products and services at Sprint (which became UUNET which became Verizon Business); founded Antfarm Networking Technologies, South Africa’s first streaming and webcasting company; and led the product development team at Internet Solutions (then IS). He does occasional consulting for corporate companies looking to move beyond pie charts. Jeff was shortlisted for an Information Is Beautiful award in 2015. He is the creator of, a blog dedicated to the art of data visualization. Jeff holds a degree in electrical engineering from Witwatersrand University.
