Cloudera + Mistral Partner to Bring Specialized, Sovereign Intelligence to Enterprise Data

Meet Zhenni Wu, Co-founder and Head of Marketing at PuppyGraph. With a track record that includes serving as an Alumni Ventures Fellow, advising early-stage startups, and leading marketing for Arcion (acquired by Databricks for $100M), Zhenni has built a career on adaptability, authenticity, and a sharp eye for emerging tech.

Following the Developers

Zhenni never intentionally planned a career in deep tech. Her "aha" moment arrived in 2014 on the Apple App Store team, right at the peak of its growth. Coming from a marketing background, she was suddenly working with developers worldwide and seeing new technology before anyone even wrote about it. Captivated by the unique craft of marketing to developers, she simply kept following them—navigating through autonomous driving, graph databases, ETL pipelines, and now AI.

To stay ahead in a rapidly changing landscape, Zhenni believes in continuous "refactoring" of her own mindset:

  • Redefining expertise: She actively rejects the notion that seniority equals superiority. Acknowledging that anyone can learn anything with AI, she regularly looks to younger team members for the best ideas in the room.

  • Embracing AI thoughtfully: At PuppyGraph, AI acts as a sounding board, but Zhenni is adamant that the original creative spark must always come from a human.

AI is a great sounding board. The original idea still has to come from a human.

Building Trust and Autonomous Teams

Her leadership philosophy is refreshingly straightforward. Borrowing from Netflix's culture, she believes in hiring "fully formed adults" who thrive on genuine autonomy rather than rigid rulebooks.

This authenticity extends perfectly into her partnership strategy. For Zhenni, trust is built over a shared meal or coffee, not across an email chain. Her approach is to discover what her partner cares about right now and build a plan that creates lift for both sides. Once the plan is in motion, she makes it a point to be generous with praise, especially in front of their leadership team.

Speak up and share your ideas, even the half-formed ones. And when imposter syndrome shows up, and it will, remember that it is lying to you.

Shaping an "Unremarkable" Future

Zhenni is a passionate advocate for women in technical spaces, yet her ultimate goal is to make female milestones completely unremarkable. She looks forward to a future where women naturally dominate deep technical and P&L roles—and where a woman with an accent at a conference booth is immediately recognized as a co-founder rather than assumed to be support staff.

She is equally candid about the future of technology, advocating for honest, public "what-if" conversations about AI job anxiety to ensure humanity lands on its feet. Her advice to women navigating this fast-moving industry is a potent reminder to own your space:

"Speak up and share your ideas, even the half-formed ones. And when imposter syndrome shows up, and it will, remember that it is lying to you. You are in that room because you earned it, not because someone made a mistake. Everyone else is faking it a little too. Say the thing."

A Quirky Superpower

While her leadership and marketing chops provide the gravitas, Zhenni also possesses a delightful secret weapon: she is exceptionally good at picking conference swag for her company to distribute at their booth.

What sounds like a fun party trick is actually a masterclass in demand generation. The viral swag she has chosen over the years has landed her startups in blogs and TikTok videos, pulled Fortune 100 CMOs over to her booth, and lifted booth scans by an incredible 600%. As she puts it with a smile, "I treat it as demand generation with a plush toy attached."
