Greentube powers exciting - and responsible - digital gaming with Cloudera
Greentube, an Austria-based iGaming provider, is one of the five most prominent solutions of its kind worldwide. It offers everything from virtual table games to other casino games such as virtual bingo and digital slot machines, and operates in 17 countries while serving more than 200 million global customers. Cloudera’s data platform has been a critical foundation, helping Greentube’s teams manage massive volumes, deliver new capabilities, and manage compliance during its rapid growth.
Since 2020, Greentube has added five subsidiaries in the Netherlands, India, and the United States. Meeting the regulatory requirements of various countries while serving an ever-growing customer base required Greentube to streamline its systems and open up new lines of technology.
To achieve this, Greentube migrated its data platforms to the cloud, moving to Cloudera on Azure to gain new capabilities, including AI and real-time data streaming. This opened up new use cases while reducing Greentube’s administrative footprint and meeting different regulations among the countries that the iGaming giant has recently added.
“Our investment in cutting-edge technology allows us to cater to player preferences and create the best gaming experience for the player,” Stefan Kührer, Greentube’s Tech Lead for Real-Time Data, said. “Greentube is already planning the next steps after this migration to Azure with Cloudera’s support.”
Turning real-time player and game data into actionable insights
A Cloudera customer since 2018, Greentube realized it could use more cloud-based capabilities to continually deliver new products and services to its rapidly growing customer base. With Cloudera on Azure, Greentube lifted and shifted its data platform and services to the cloud to accommodate this business growth. In the process, Greentube also adopted Cloudera Data Flow to support real-time use cases.
While the overall migration, including all of Greentube’s products, lasted a year, the move to the cloud was a key first step. With the help of Cloudera Professional Services, the migration to Azure took around three months to complete, both on plan and on budget.
Cloudera Professional Services helped Greentube plan the migration strategy to facilitate the change and set up the cloud environment. Kührer noted that the move went smoothly without significant downtime for its platform.
“The move to Cloudera on Azure was one of the smoothest migration projects we’ve had at Greentube. Now, we have the capabilities and flexibility to support more analytics, machine learning, and AI use cases, to deliver a responsible and entertaining iGaming experience for players,” Kührer said.
Greentube unlocks new gaming use cases with move to Cloudera Data Flow
Since the move, Greentube has seen between 20 and 30 use cases already in production, as well as the new ones. Use cases support many functions, notably powering many responsible gaming features and, by extension, complying with gaming regulation in the countries where Greentube operates.
The recently introduced ability for Greentube to score players based on potential risk prevents users from engaging in harmful behavior and takes action to deter them from overspending. With real-time data, Greentube’s platform can block players if this risky behavior is detected.
Alongside emphasizing responsible gaming, Greentube also found that Cloudera’s capabilities could help it introduce new and exciting customer-facing features. Greentube is leveraging Cloudera on Azure to widen its product range by growing its data lakehouse to onboard new data sources and collect more information on its most popular games. This helps develop and optimize games and categories.
Kührer added that scalability is another benefit of its new cloud-native technology architecture. With Cloudera on Azure, Greentube's IT infrastructure team does not need to alter the platform's layout or upgrade hardware to add capacity. It can now seamlessly set up a new cluster if necessary.
Leading iGaming innovation with AI and machine learning capabilities
Looking ahead, Greentube plans to utilize Cloudera AI and machine learning to continue rolling out features to its customer base, driving more customer loyalty and earning repeat usage of its offerings.
The iGaming company plans to make real-time game recommendations to its players by cultivating a user’s preferences, such as themed table games, and prescribing similar ones based on this data.
