Breaking Down Data Silos to Enable Collaboration

Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) faced escalating challenges in managing the vast data generated across its diverse operations. The global pandemic highlighted the inefficiencies of siloed data systems, where analytics were primarily confined to IT teams. This limitation impeded the bank’s ability to respond swiftly to market demands and make critical decisions. 

Recognizing the imperative for change, BRI sought a scalable, collaborative infrastructure to integrate its data, democratize access across the organization, and unlock the full potential of advanced analytics. The objective was to streamline operations, enhance cost efficiency, and equip employees with tools and training to effectively leverage data.

Broadening Access to Data with Self-Service Tools and Advanced AI/ML

BRI launched the Padepokan Data program (DOJO Data), creating a community of "Pendekar Data" (Data Warriors) trained to utilize data for both basic and advanced analytics and AI/ML tools. This initiative is underpinned by Cloudera’s technology, which provides the foundation for specialized data projects and broader organizational engagement with data-driven decision-making. 

Cloudera plays a pivotal role in enabling seamless data access for aspiring Data Warriors. Its scalable data processing capabilities enable the efficient processing, visualization, and presentation of insights from large datasets. Furthermore, Cloudera AI and Cloudera Operational Database, powered by Apache HBase, empower Data Warriors to develop and deploy AI/ML models tailored to specific operational needs.

A notable example is the Personalized Product Recommendation model, which analyzes customer behavior patterns to predict needs and offer tailored solutions. Developed using Cloudera AI, this model integrates seamlessly with BRI’s core applications: BRIMO (a superapp for customers) and BRISPOT (a superapp for loan account managers), enhancing customer engagement and service innovation.

The Cloudera platform has expanded data accessibility beyond the Data Warriors, empowering over 7,000 employees to independently query, visualize, and analyze data. Cloudera’s intuitive tool reduces reliance on IT teams, accelerates insight generation and optimizes operations, embedding a culture of data-driven decision-making throughout the bank.  

Enabling Data-Driven Decision-Making and Customer-Centric Solutions

Cloudera’s solutions have driven transformative impact across BRI. Tasks that once took 5-10 days are now completed in a single day, resulting in a 75% reduction in costs associated with ad hoc data requests.

The adoption of Cloudera AI has facilitated the development of AI/ML models that greatly enhance customer experiences, such as boosting product approval rates through tailored recommendations. The transformation has streamlined operations, fostered data-driven decision-making, and enhanced customer-centric solutions.

Looking ahead, BRI plans to further leverage Cloudera to develop “Hi Bravo!”, a Retrieval-Augmented Generative (RAG) AI model. This virtual mentor is designed to guide non-technical teams in reading and summarizing insights from financial reports and performance data.
